The Pennsylvania No. X6454 Box Car is listed in the Production Table as Variation L and Variation M that has WHITE heat-stamped lettering on an TUSCAN body and doors. The number "65400" is printed on the sides, this is not the production number. The production number is listed beneath the car data on the right side of the car.
Those box cars that were produced in 1949 did not have a brake wheel, and the sheet metal chassis only had the four corner steps on some of the cars that were made in 1952 as Lionel was using up the last of 9-1/4" frames. This car was available from 1949 until 1952 and there are two variations:
Variation L: The doors are made out of metal and painted to match the body color. Used Staple-End trucks with magnetic couplers. 1949 until 1951 production.
Variation M: The doors are made out of plastic and are painted to match the body color. This variation is sometimes found with Bar-end trucks with magnetic couplers. 1952 production. |
