Alaska Railroad Box Car No. 6464-825 was produced for two years 1959 and 1960. This car has a DARK BLUE Multi-block doors with a YELLOW painted upper stripe and was equipped with early AAR trucks. The lettering is heat-stamped in DARK BLUE on YELLOW and YELLOW on the DARK BLUE painted body.
At the end of the post-war period Madison Hardware had a lot Alaska bodies for which they didn’t have any doors. They installed either WHITE, or YELLOW doors to complete these cars. This car sometimes shows up with a partially WHITE stripe at the top which can be accomplished by chemical alteration. There is, however, the possibility that Lionel actually produced some cars with this color. Expert advice is advised before purchase of any cars that deviate from the four variations listed below.
Variation A: Has a Type III body that has YELLOW lettering.
Variation B: Has a Type III body that has ORANGE YELLOW lettering.
Variation C: Has a Type IV body that has YELLOW lettering.
Variation D: Has a Type IV body that has ORANGE YELLOW lettering.
The Type III body is the most common.
