LIONEL TRAINS FIGURE SET No. 953

The Lionel Figure Set No. 953 was available from 1959 until 1962 and came with 32 pieces of Plasticville housed in a Type II or Type III box.

The set consisted of the following Plasticville items:

1. No. 1619 Citizens 24 citizens that includes eight Littletown railroad figures (fat people)

2. BC-9 Benches 2 benches

3. No. TL-4 Traffic Signal 1 traffic signal
spacer
4. No. WH-5 Fire Hydrants 2 hydrants

5. Paint Palette, Paint Brush, and Paint Thinner were included with No. 1619

No. 953 Type II Box Side

Note: The paint thinner that was included in these kits is Carbona (Carbon Tetrachloride) which is no longer available because it is a known carcinogen.

This is the only one of these Lionel / Plasticville kits that has two instruction sheets. Lionel included an instruction sheet numbered 953-10 that was dated 3-59 and this is illustrated below. In addition, Bachmann included their instruction sheet on how to paint the figures.

There are three variations:

Variation A: Came in a Type II box.

Variation B: Came in a Type III box.

Variation C: Came in a cardboard box with the number "953" written on one end. This box is believed to have originated with Madison Hardware.
