Lionel Trains Flagpole No. 89 B Variation

Lionel Trains Flagpole No. 89The Flagpole No. 89 was available between the years 1956 and 1958. The cloth 48 star flag (Hawaii and Alaska became states in 1959) is very realistic. Early versions of this flag have a stitched border, while later issues have just a plain border. It came with a BLUE or PURPLE pennant with "LIONEL" in WHITE written on it. Some doubt exists that the PURPLE flag may just have changed color from its original shade of BLUE.

The WHITE pole mounts in a TAN plastic base by means of two locking clips on the end of the pole. These clips are easily broken upon removal if care is not taken. The base has four GREEN foam bushes that are mounted at the corners. These are usually found in deteriorated condition. The bottom inscription reads:

This accessory is very difficult to find today with a box, especially with the box insert. There are two variations:

Variation B has the PURPLE pennant.
