This car is difficult to find with the original trees which are scrawny looking and are believed to have been weeds that were taken from the fields surrounding the Lionel factory in New Jersey. Reproduction trees have been reported to have used the same source. These trees have sometimes been replaced with air ferns.
The trees are held in place by four metal stakes, but this car has also been found using No. 6418-9 elastic bands. In 1959, the catalog showed the trees held in place by both methods, and in 1960, for set No. 1635WS, the picture shows that no method of restraint was used. |
