Lionel Trains Allis-Chalmers Scraper Flat Car No. 6817The Allis-Chalmers Scraper Flat Car No. 6817 was available in 1959 and 1960. It was produced on a RED 6511-2 Die 4 or 6424-11 chassis, or a BLACK 6424-11 chassis. This car has its WHITE number to the left of the "LIONEL" side inscription. Came with early AAR trucks and disc couplers. There are two types of scrapers:

Type 1: WHITE "Allis-Chalmers" is heat-stamped on the main frame of the scraper and it also has raised BLACK letters on the engine hood. Came with a wire frame windshield.
Type 2: All heat-stamped lettering has been removed as has the windshield. This is the more commonly found version.

No. 6817-100 Box End

The scraper is very delicate and is difficult to find undamaged. It was available for separate sale and is usually found in a WHITE box with the number 6817-100 stamped on the ends.

There are some variations in the color of these scapers, however, none are nearly as pronounced as the Type 6 Dozer for the No. 6816.

Variation A: Used a RED 6511-2 chassis.

Variation B: Used a RED 6424-11 chassis.

Variation C: Used a BLACK 6424-11 chassis. This variation is rare.

Scraper Box Variations

The scraper was for sale separately under the number 6817-100 and was sold to dealers in a plain WHITE box with this number and the description printed on the box ends as is shown above.

A second box was printed for promotional use by Allis-Chalmers.

This box shows pictures of the scraper in use on the sides and also a picture of this scraper on the ends much like what was printed for the No. 6816-100 Dozer. This box is illustrated below and to the right. Both of these boxes came with instruction sheet No. 6817-130 dated 11/59 and are hard to find today.
