The New York Central Gondola Car No. 6562 was the last version of this car to have the metal chassis. Produced between 1956 and 1958 on a Type 2a body, this car had bar-end trucks with tabbed couplers, and usually came with four RED canisters. Note that the "N" is in the third panel, that "NYC" is over-scored, "6562" is not underscored and "NEW 2-49" on the sides. There are no steps or brake wheels.
Most of the time this car is found with a load of four RED cannisters that have WHITE heat-stamped lettering. However, the B Variation is sometimes found with RED cannisters that have BLACK lettering. These cannisters, that have also been found with No. 6112 Variation A, are difficult to find today.
There are three variations:
Variation A: GRAY unpainted body with MAROON heat-stamped lettering and came in box labeled "6562-1" on the ends. |
