Do Not Use Track Current to Light this Lamp Post

Lionel Trains Highway Lamp Post No. 64The Highway Lamp Post No. 64 was first issued in 1940-42 and was available from 1945 until 1949 during the Post War Period. The lamp post was painted after it was assembled. Even the soldering of the wire in the base shows that this lamp was painted after the wire was soldered in place. Made from die-cast metal in two castings it is very fragile.

No. 64 Early Classic Box End

An added problem is the lamp that this post used.

It was No. L452W that originally came in its own box that was labeled "No. 64-15 / 12 VOLTS / OPAL LAMP", and despite this label it is recommended that a lesser voltage be used. If this lamp is hooked up to the track voltage with the use of a CTC Connector it won’t last very long. The best way to power this lamp is with an accessory circuit, especially one that has variable voltage that would allow for only 10 volts of current. Lamps for this light have been reproduced. We recommend using caution in the amount of voltage supplied to these lamps.

No. 64-15 (L452W) Box End

This lamp is powered by push-in clips that accepted the wire ends. These clips are shown on the left side in the picture of the base to the right. Post War versions came with BROWN wires whose ends were already striped and were inserted into these clips.

All of the boxes that have been found for this light show the "New York" and "Chicago" showrooms which probably indicates that this light was not made after 1948.
