The Lionel Lines Chemical Tank Car No. 6315 was produced between 1963 and 1966, and has a usually unpainted ORANGE tank with BLACK rubber-stamped lettering with no built date. The tank is mounted on an unpainted BLACK plastic frame and the trucks are mounted on a metal supports that are held by a single screw the goes through the frame and into the tank.
Equipped with either early or late AAR trucks, this tank car is usually found with two operating disc couplers, although some examples that were produced in 1963 and 1964 have one solid non-operating coupler. There are three variations:
Variation A: ORANGE painted tank. A hard to find variation.
Variation B: Unpainted ORANGE tank. Came in an ORANGE undersized box labeled "No. 6315-50 / LIONEL / CHEMICAL / TANK CAR" on the box ends that was produced in 1963 and 1964. Has early AAR trucks that do not show open axle ends. This is the most common variation.
Variation C: Unpainted ORANGE tank equipped with late AAR trucks that show an open axle. Cataloged in 1963 and 1964 erroneously under the No. 6315-60, however, it was actually issued in 1965 and 1966. The ORANGE picture boxes are labeled "No. 6315-60 / LIONEL / CHEMICAL / TANK CAR" on the box ends and allowed a more looser fit for the car than Variation B. Has late AAR trucks that show open axle ends.
