The Track Side Control Signal No. 353 was similar to the No. 163 Single Target Block Signal except for the dual-light housing that covered the lamps. Both of these signals share a common ancestor, the No. 253 Automatic Block Control Signal.
They used the same lamps. The RED (L19R) and the GREEN (L19G) two-pin lamps were used in conjunction with a 153C Contact that would be placed beneath the track and would be activated by the weight of a passing train.
Produced in 1960 and 1961, there were two instruction sheets. One was issued for each of these years. In 1960, this instruction sheet was numbered 153C-23, and in 1961 452-15. These signals were housed in an ORANGE picture box that is shown to the left.
Dimensions: Base is 4 inches long by 1-3/4 inches wide, Height is 7-3/8 inches.
