The New York Central No. X3464 was available from 1949 until 1952. This DULL ORANGE 9-1/4" operating box car has WHITE heat-stamped lettering, with the number "159000" on the side. This is not the number that was used by Lionel for production purposes. That number is X3464 and is located beneath the car data on the right side of the car. There are two major variations:
Variation A: Has metal chemically blackened doors, staple-end trucks with magnetic couplers, and the chassis is without steps at the four corners. 1949 to 1951 production.
Variation B: Has BLACK plastic doors, bar-end trucks, and the chassis has steps at the four corners. Not all of this variation have these steps. Lionel was using up old chassis’ from previously issued cars in the 9-1/4" series. 1952 production.
Production of this car ceased in 1952, The following year Lionel would issue the first of the 10-1/2" operating box cars beginning with the No. 3484. |
