Submarine No. 3330-100 Box Top

The submarine that came with this flat car was an unassembled kit with the individual parts held between the two hull halves that were secured together with o-rings and screws. The submarine must be unassembled with all of the parts, including the glue capsule, to achieve a like new grading standard. This submarine has been reproduced along with all of the kit component parts, with the exception of the glue capsule (Part No. 3330-102), so collectors should be cautious.

The submarine was also available for sale separately in its own box No. 3330-100 that is illustrated above right. There are no variations, although this submarine was issued with other flat cars. See: No. 3820, 3830, 6830

We’ve referenced the instruction sheet No. 3330-107 dated 8-60 that came with this submarine kit that shows the parts that are needed to complete this kit. View the FRONT and BACK page of this document below. There are two different versions of this instruction sheet that show a different service department address on the back page.

In addition, Lionel issued an important notice numbered 3330-109 that is dated 8-61 informing their purchasers that this submarine "will operate with greater power using four (4) drive bands." This notice was equally applicable to No. 3820 and 3830 Operating Submarine Cars. Printed in BLACK ink on WHITE paper, most of the original owners discarded this sheet making it difficult to find today. A picture of this sheet is shown below.
