The Lionel No. 2420 Work CabooseThe D.L. & W. Work Caboose No. 2420 has a die-cast flat car frame, searchlight, hand rails, tool boxes, and ladder. This made for a labor intensive assembly, which was why Lionel would not produce this type of caboose after 1950 with all of these added details. There are four variations to this car:

Variation A: DARK GRAY toolboxes and cab on a LIGHT GRAY chassis with BLACK rubber-stamped serif lettering. Equipped with Type 3A electronic coil couplers with no stake marks. (1946)

Variation B: DARK GRAY toolboxes and cab on a DARK GRAY chassis with BLACK rubber-stamped serif lettering. Equipped with Type 3A electronic coil couplers with no stake marks. (1946)

Variation C: Same as Variation B except with Type 3B electronic coil couplers with stake marks. (1947-48)

Variation D: Same as Variation A except rubber-stamped in sans-serif lettering on the chassis.
