Lionel Trains FA AB Unit DieselsThe Lionel Santa Fe Alco FA No. 223 was available only in 1963 and was painted in the Santa Fe war bonnet passenger diesel paint scheme that has BLACK heat-stamped lettering and a nose decal on the A Unit. A two position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from the top of the body controled the direction of this diesel. A single vertical worm drive motor powers two axles that utilized Magnatraction on one of these axles. The sheet metal chassis has solid non-operating couplers. The A Unit was lighted and was equipped with a horn.

Came with a No. 218C B unit that sometimes came with or without the "BLT 8-57" date. For close-up pictures of the difference see No. 215 and No. 218. The No. 218C B Unit is the only unit of the Alco Series that was not numbered.
