The Lionel Single Dome Tank CarsThe Sunoco Single Dome Tank Car No. 1005 was available from 1948 to 1950 as part of Lionel’s Scout Series of train sets. This tank car has an unpainted GREY plastic body with rubber-stamped lettering along with a three-colored "SUNOCO" herald, and early scout trucks and couplers.

Two different types of sheet metal frames were used on these cars. The first was painted a glossy BLACK and it had steps at the four corners. The second, and later issue, is usually found with a blackened sheet metal frame that is without steps at the corners. There are two variations:

Variation A: Has MEDIUM BLUE lettering along with a small "LIONEL LINES / 1005."

Variation B: Has DARK BLUE lettering along with a large "LIONEL LINES / 1005."
