O Gauge 90 Degree Crossing No. 020 was essentially produced at the birth of O Scale Lionel trains in the pre-war period beginning in 1915 and lasting until 1942.
There really hasn’t been that much interest to collectors of this piece. Because of the long production run there are most likely additional variations. This is an item that is ripe for investigation. However at this time, there are only three documented variations of the No. 020 90° crossing during the Post War era. This crossover was produced between 1945 and 1961 during the Post War Period.
Variation A: Has a BLACK metal base with an SILVER aluminum and BLACK plate that is inscribed "MADE IN U.S. AMERICA / No 020 / CROSSING / THE LIONEL CORP. N.Y." Came with RED insulators. A picture of this plate is shown to the right.
Variation B: Has a BLACK bakelite crossover center and RED center rail insulators. Embossed on the bakelite center is "NO. 020 / CROSSING / MADE IN / U.S. OF AMERICA / THE LIONEL CORP. / N.Y." A picture of the center of this variation is shown lower right.
Variation C: Same as Variation B except for a BLACK Bakelite center and BLACK center rail insulators. Embossed on the bakelite center is "NO. 020 / CROSSING / MADE IN / U.S. OF AMERICA / THE LIONEL CORP. / N.Y."
