The Lionel Type R Transformer was available in 1946 and 1947. It produced 110 Watts on two independent circuits each producing 6-24 Volts. This transformer did not have a built-in whistle or directional control and is used in conjunction with the No. 167 Whistle Controller that added these features. There are two variations:
Variation A: Shows power output as 100 Watts. 1946 Production.
Variation B: Shows power output as 110 Watts, it came with an instruction sheet that was dated 6-47. 1947 Production.
