The Allis-Chalmers Dozer Flat Car No. 6816 was available in 1959 and 1960. Produced on a RED 6511-2 and 6424-11 or a BLACK 6424-11, Die 4 mold, this car has its WHITE number to the left of the "LIONEL" side inscription. Came with early AAR trucks and disc couplers. There are six types of dozers:
Type 1: WHITE "ALLIS-CHALMERS" is heat-stamped on the seat back of the dozer and has raised BLACK "ALLIS-CHALMERS" lettering on the engine hood. Came with a longer rear hitch that has three holes. Issued in box No. 6816-100.
Type 2: Same as Type 1 except no hood heat-stamped lettering.
Type 3: Same as Type 2 except the "HD 16 DIESEL" is added in BLACK lettering above the emblem on the seat sides.
Type 4: Same as Type 3 except this version has a shortened rear hitch with the holes filled in.
Type 5: Same as Type 4 except the lettering on the seat is BLACK in color.
Type 6: Same as Type 5 except the dozer is a lighter shade of "faded" ORANGE.
The dozer is very delicate and is difficult to find undamaged. Note: in the picture above on this Type 5 dozer, that the hydraulic ram is missing. This is a common fault that is found with this piece. It was available for separate sale and is usually found in a ORANGE picture box under the number 6816-100. The Type 1 and 6 versions are the most difficult to find of this dozer.
The flat car has three variations:
Variation A: was produced on a RED 6511-2 mold that came with a Type 2, 3, 4, or 5 dozer.
Variation B: was produced on a RED 6424-11 mold that came with a Type 2, 3, 4, or 5 dozer.
Variation C: was produced on a BLACK 6424-11 with any type of dozer, but is usually found with a Type 6 dozer indicating that this car was a later manufactured run. This variation is rare.
