The Lionel Large Automobile Box CarsNew Haven Automobile Box Car No. 6468-25 used an altered 6464 Box Car mold and was cataloged beginning in 1956 and continued for two more years until 1958. All of the early variations of these cars showed no roof line marks because they were manufactured prior to 1955 when these molds were modified to accommodate the No. 6352 Pacific Fruit Express car (Type IIA).

This car replaced the No. 6468 Baltimore & Ohio Automobile Box Car. This box car is an unpainted ORANGE plastic body that is heat-stamped with WHITE and BLACK lettering. The car is actually numbered "646825" on the sides and came with bar-end trucks with magnetic couplers some of which have tabs. The doors were unique to the automobile cars and bear no resembelence to the doors that were used on the 6464 box cars.

There are four variations:

Variation A: Large WHITE "H" under Large BLACK "N", with a full-serif, BLACK "New Haven" with WHITE technical data.

Variation B: is the same as Variation A except with half-serif on the upper right of the "N" as is illustrated above to the right.

Variation C: is the same as Variation B except that the colors are reversed on the large letters. It has a WHITE half-serif "N" over a BLACK "H" and a WHITE "New Haven" and BLACK technical data. This is the hardest of these variations to find.

Variation D: This car is frequently found with TUSCAN painted doors. This is not an original factory production, but was created by Madison Hardware from left over Lionel stock after the end of the Post War Period in 1969.
