Solid YELLOW painted or unpainted Single-block doors with built date "3 54" to the left of the door and with an "XME" designation that is printed to the right. The Missouri Pacific Seal is in the fourth panel except as noted below. 1955 production.
Variation I: Used an unpainted ROYAL BLUE Type IIa body that has GRAY painted roof, ends, and side bands.
Variation J: Identical to Variation I except the Missouri Pacific Seal is in the panel just to the left (5th) of the door. A rare variation.
Variation K: Identical to Variation I except with a NAVY BLUE unpainted body.
Variation L: Identical to Variation I except used a Type IIb body.
Variation M: Used an unpainted WHITE Type IIa body that is painted ROYAL BLUE and has a GRAY painted roof, ends, and side center band.
Group 4: Used a Type IIb body that does not have "grooves" cut on the sides. The stylized "Eagle" is to the left side of the door with the leading "E" 5/8" tall. Solid YELLOW Multi-block doors with built date "3 54" to the left of the door and with an "XME" designation that is printed to the right.
Variation N: ROYAL BLUE painted upper and lower side bands on an unpainted GRAY body.
Group 5: Used a Type IIb body that does not have "grooves" cut on the sides. The stylized "Eagle" is to the left side of the door with the leading "E" 1/2" tall. Solid YELLOW Multi-block doors with built date "3 54" to the left of the door and with an "XME" designation that is printed to the right. This group has variations that have a smaller Missouri Pacific Lines seal that is located in the fourth panel to the left of the door.
Variation O: ROYAL BLUE painted upper and lower side bands on an unpainted GRAY body.
Variation P: Painted ROYAL BLUE body that has a GRAY painted roof, ends, and side center band.
All of these variations do not take into account the changes that occurred in the sub-types of bar-end trucks that were used. On the later releases these trucks would have tabbed couplers.
