Lionel Trains Van Camp's Pork & Beans No. 638-2361 Variation A

The Lionel 6014 Series Box CarsThe Van Camp's Pork & Beans No. 638-2361 was offered as an add-on car for set No. X-600 in 1961. This set was offered on the label of a can of "Stokely-Van Camp’s Pork and Beans" and cost $11.95. It was also uncataloged in 1962.

It is believed that Lionel used the telephone number of Stokely Van Camp’s corporate office (the exchange MElrose 8 translated numerically to 638) as the number for this promotional car. Lionel listed this car as No. 6050-150 in their Service Manual.

Note that the identification number "638-2361" is printed to the right of the double doors. All other cars in this series have their number printed to the left of these doors. Issued on Type II, Type IIa, and Type III bodies, this car has three variations:

Variation A: RED Type II body.

Variation B: RED Type IIa body. This is the first car that was issued with a solid roof walkway.

Variation C: LIGHT RED Type III body.

Versions of this car have been found with both early AAR and Arch-bar trucks that have solid non-operating couplers.
