The Lionel Large Gondoala CarsThe New York Central Gondola Car No. 6162 was made in 1959 until 1968. There is no metal undercarriage for this gondola. This unpainted BLUE Type 2b gondola has WHITE heat-stamped lettering and came with a variety of truck combinations including early, and late AAR, or Arch-bar trucks equipped with either disc or solid couplers. Usually issued with three WHITE canisters. Note that the "N" is in the third panel and that the steps have been eliminated, as have the brake wheels. There are four variations:

Variation A: This variation was cataloged as No. 6162-25, however, it came in an ORANGE perforated box that was either marked "6162" or "6162-1" on the ends. Usually found with "NEW 2-49" date. 1959-60 production.

Variation B: The same as Variation A, except that it came in an ORANGE picture box numbered "6162." 1961-63 production.

Variation C: Came with the No. 6162-110 when boxed as a set component. Late AAR trucks with either disc or solid couplers. No "NEW 2-49" built date. 1964-66 production.

Variation D: RED plastic variation. Lionel was using up old stock of the No. 6342 late issued culvert gondola bodies and this accounts for the color change. This is a somewhat difficult car to find. Most likely issued in 1967 and 1968.
