The Lionel Large Gondoala CarsThe New York Central Gondola Car No. 6062 appeared in the 1959 catalog as being RED in color, but it was never produced this way. All of the variations are BLACK unpainted Type 2a or Type 2b bodies that have WHITE heat-stamped lettering and came with early or late AAR trucks equipped with disc couplers. Usually issued with three ORANGE cable reels. Note that the "N" is in the third panel, that "NYC" is over-scored, "6062" is under-scored and "NEW 2-49" on the sides. There are no steps or brake wheels.

There are four variations:

Variation A: This variation has a metal chassis that is similar to what was used in the No. 6462 variations and came in an ORANGE perforated box labeled "6062-4" on an inside flap. Although Lionel eliminated this sheet metal chassis with this issue of the venerable New York Central gondola car, this variation of this car was the exception, as Lionel was using up old stock. Produced in early 1959 on a Type 2a body.

Variation B: AAR trucks are riveted directly to the Type 2b body and came with three ORANGE cable reels.

Variation C: Same as Variation B except with BROWN cable reels.

Variation D: Is shown in the 1969 catalog as BLUE No. 6062-50, which is the number that is shown only on the box end. This car was never produced in this color, but was instead a GLOSS BLACK. "NYC" is over-scored and the under-scored number "6062" appears on the sides. There is no "NEW 2-49" date. Produced on body mold 6462-2 that has a detailed undercarriage, no brake wheels, and late AAR trucks that have one disc and one solid non-operating coupler. Came with two RED unpainted canisters that are marked "LIONEL" on the top. This gondola came in a Hagerstown checkerboard box and is difficult to find with the box.
