The Lionel Columbia Type 2-4-2-Locomotive No. 1001 was the first locomotive that Lionel produced that has a plastic body. Available in 1948, this Scout engine was unpainted, with a WHITE heat-stamped cab number, plastic motor that had tubular brass center rail pick-up rollers, and a two-position directional control whose aluminum control lever is adjustable at the top of the boiler. The drive wheels were Baldwin disks, and this locomotive is lighted, but there is no headlight lens. It came with a No. 1001T Scout sheet-metal tender.
